IRELAND - March 2019

I spent three weeks in the beautiful green rolling hills of Ireland. I was struck by the simple beauty of this country and particularly riding and jumping horses over stone walls and open ditches.

I had the privilege of being trained by many of the greats, including Dermot Weld, Johnny Murtagh, Eddie Ahern, and Gordon Elliott, along with riding a few of my favorite bloodlines, including Galileo, No Nay Never and Sea the Stars.

The most exciting part of my trip was experiencing my first fox hunt! In classic style, sounds of a bugle horn and barking hounds led the way.

JAPAN -  May 2018

I first visited the Northern Farm during a veterinary externship. I was amazed by their facilities, particularly their uphill, indoor training track, complete with speed monitors worn by jockeys, cameras positioned at numerous points throughout the course, plus a room at the top of the hill where trainers can view their horses through a large window and on the multiple television screens.

When I returned years later I was able to ride several of their world-class horses, including bloodlines by their champion sire, Deep Impact.

BELGIUM -  August 2014

I secured a job transporting horses via plane between the US and Europe, working as a traveling groom. While in Belgium, I worked with an accomplished equine physical therapist. I also worked with a famous Belgian surgeon, who allowed me to observe his cutting edge work in his clinic.

THE NETHERLANDS -  August 2014

I worked with the veterinarians for the Longines Global Champions Tour. It was amazing watching world-class jumpers compete in person.
